The actors made a not-so-subtle dig at Koy blaming his monologue falling flat on getting the job just 10 days prior.
Ken Jeong and Joel McHale hilariously appeared to drag Jo Koy's Golden Globes monologue as they took the stage at the 2023 Emmy Awards.
While presenting the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program award during television's biggest night, the Community co-stars poked fun at the moment when Koy blamed flat jokes on having just accepted the hosting gig 10 days prior.
Playfully bantering with each other, McHale, 52, joked that Jeong -- a former doctor -- did not leave the medical profession for acting, but rather was kicked out after killing a patient. The Animal Control star added that Jeong, 54, is still facing a lawsuit to this day.
"The instruments that almost killed that dude were the ones the nurses left in, OK?" Jeong responded, jokingly. "The ones that saved his life are the ones I left in. And besides, I only had the gig for 10 days at that point."
During his monologue at the 2023 Golden Globes, Koy defended jokes that were not landing, saying, "I got the gig 10 days ago."
The joke from the Community co-stars comes just hours after Koy's ex, Chelsea Handler, took a moment to slyly shade him during her monologue as she hosted the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday. In that speech, Handler joked about how attracted she is to director Martin Scorsese.
"Unfortunately, Martin Scorsese isn't here tonight, but that's not going to stop me from letting everyone know that I would toss him around like a little Italian meatball," Handler joked, before adding, "Thank you for laughing at that -- my writers wrote it."
The not-so-subtle dig -- which earned a raucous round of applause -- referred to Koy's controversial remarks in which he blamed the show's writers for the jokes that didn't land, and tried to take credit for the ones that did. (He's since called that "a rookie move.")
"You want a perfect monologue? Shut up! You are kidding me, right? Slow down," Koy told the audience during his monologue. "I wrote some of these and they're the ones you're laughing at."
The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, originally set to take place last September, was postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Hosted by Anthony Anderson at L.A. Live's Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the ceremony will air live Monday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. PT, 8 p.m. ET on Fox, and will be streamed Tuesday, Jan. 16 on Hulu.
